Why Choose a Bespoke Jousting Shield?
Off-the-shelf shields aren't built for jousting. A proper jousting shield needs to be the right weight for mounted combat, strong enough to take repeated lance strikes, and shaped to deflect blows safely. These shields are built by someone who actually jousts with them.
Every shield starts as laminated hardwood, shaped and profiled by hand. The construction follows the same principles used by medieval shield makers - layers of wood with the grain running in alternating directions for strength, covered in linen and leather.
What You Get
- Laminated hardwood core - Strong, lightweight, and resilient under impact
- Linen and leather covering - Traditional materials for durability and grip
- Correct period profile - Curved and shaped for lance deflection
- Enarmes and guige - Proper strapping for mounted use
- Custom painting - Your heraldic device or plain field colours
Sizing and Options
Standard jousting shields are built to suit your body and horse. During the quote process, I'll ask about your height, reach, and riding style to get the dimensions right.
Painting options range from a plain field colour to full heraldic achievement with charges and mantling. Use the shield calculator to spec out exactly what you need and get a price.
