Move Toward the Resistance
If something makes you uncomfortable, that is the next thing to do.
Not recklessly. Not stupidly. But deliberately, with intent, toward the thing you are avoiding. Because the thing you are avoiding is almost always the thing that will change something.
Where this came from
The things I put off were never the hard things. They were the uncomfortable things. Hard is just effort. Uncomfortable means exposure. Vulnerability. The possibility of looking stupid.
I would build a shield but avoid photographing it. I would train longsword but avoid entering a tournament. The making was easy. The showing was the resistance.
The principle
Move toward the resistance. Acknowledge that the discomfort is a signal, not a warning. It is telling you where the growth is, not where the danger is.
How it shows up
Entering a HEMA tournament after ten lessons. Posting content on Instagram at 156 followers. Swimming in 3 degree water.
The brand test
The question is not "is this good enough?" The question is "am I avoiding this because it is uncomfortable?" If yes, it goes to the top of the list.
